This scholarship is given in the legacy of Diane Ladd. She sheltered, fed, and mothered children, teens, and anyone in her path in need of grace and love. Knowing that knowledge is power, she encouraged education at often the most unlikely opportunity. In this scholarship we are looking for a candidate that uses their education not only to better themselves but their community as well. Though not from means, Diane’s love of the arts, comedy, film, music, and literature spilled over onto any impressionable ears in her midst. Although she never reached her education goals, she never stopped learning herself, and used her hardships to turn life experiences into teachable moments.  One of the most important things to Diane was spreading the love of knowledge. However, knowing that education can be hard to obtain for some, she would have wanted to support a candidate that has the drive but not the means. Therefore, the recipient of this scholarship will be a person who has demonstrable financial need, with a strong work ethic and love of cultured learning. Thomas Larner was a former faculty member and Dean of Students at Yuba College.  He was affiliated with Yuba College from 1933-1976, first as a student (1933-35) and then in various faculty and administrative roles (1946-76).  Violanti Peri was a faculty member in the language arts and dance from 1930 until 1963.  Both died in 1977.

The Larner-Peri Scholarship was established to honor a student (or students) in a leadership role with the Associated Students of Yuba College (ASYC).  The student must have maintained a 3.0 GPA.  The award is given after the student=s completion of their Yuba College degree, contingent upon their transfer to a baccalaureate-granting institution.  Should no student from ASYC apply for this award, it may be granted to an individual who can demonstrate leadership in community or college-based civic and charitable volunteerism.

The amount of the award will vary in accordance with fluctuations in investment income. Currently, the amount of the award is elevated owing to the accrual of investment income, but cannot be permanently guaranteed at the amount advertised.
